At times I have debated whether to install a wooden fence, or a metal fence. We had a wooden one that my parents had installed from where I was a kid and it always gave the backyard such warmth. But it also required a lot of care —daubing, putting up fresh paint, nails for boards that have come off, and what have you. Now that I’m starting to build my own fence I found myself leaning towards the metal because it appears to be stronger, however, I’m not sure whether or not I might miss that awesome wooden feel. Has anyone else find themselves in this position? What did you end up choosing?

Just stumbled upon this thread while looking for something else, but I gotta say, fence choices are definitely interesting. I’m not quite at the stage of needing to install one myself, but hearing the pros and cons from different people makes me think more about what I'd do. I guess it really comes down to personal taste and how much work you're willing to put into maintaining it. Cool to see all the perspectives here!
I totally empathize with you for which I can feel what you are going through. Most of us discussed the same issue last year. Initially, I favored wood because of that raw feel, but seeing that several people were comfortable with it, we opted for metal. And this has been a year, and really, no regrets. It is not complicated at all and I still believe it has a neat look about it. If you are nearby Terrace then you should also look at some Fence Contractors in Terrace, BC as they assist us greatly in making this decision. However, in the long run, it is possibly better for your own convenience that the metal does not require such frequent repairs.
